Abstract
A flat plate model was used to calculate heat loss from the pinnae of the a nimated elephant Dumbo. In conditions of high wind velocity and large gradi ents, Dumbo could potentially dissipate more heat than he produces. This su ggests that he may need the large ears to help lose the excess heat produce d while flying. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
