PSEUDALLESCHERIA-BOYDII TENOSYNOVITIS

We present a case of tenosynovitis-arthritis caused by Pseudallescheri a boydii. The patient was a 63-year-old person with a chronic lymphocy tic leukaemia and a haemolytic anaemia since 9 years. He was treated w ith cytostatics and corticosteroids. The fungal infection started with a skin injury al the level of the left carpal bone that slowly progre ssed into a cystic swelling. The patient, who developed the infection under a low prophylactic dose of 100 mg fluconazole daily, was success fully treated with a higher dose of 400 mg daily. This is the first ca se of successful treatment with fluconazole in a case of pseudallesche riasis.
