Optically controlled pulse suppression and wavelength switching based on st
imulated Raman scattering in the Sagnac interferometer have been proposed.
A model is developed to describe the transfer function of the loop as a fun
ction of a fiber core composition, pump power, and a frequency shift. The w
avelength switching with cross-talk better than 18 dB is predicted at low.
values of the interferometer's coupling coefficient (much less than1) and p
ump powers up to 10 W. Nonlinear optical suppression of 120 ps optical puls
es with contrast ratio of 12 dB and wavelength dependent properties of the
transfer function are demonstrated experimentally. (C) 2001 Published by El
