LixC60 compounds with x between. 6 and 15 are investigated using static and
magic-angle spinning C-13 nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The C-1
3 data show evidence for sp(3) bonding among C-60 molecules. The relative i
ntensities of the sp(3) sites suggest a C-60 polymerization and support the
prediction of a lattice distortion in the LixC60 low-temperature phase. Th
e C-13 chemical shift data indicate an incomplete charge transfer from the
