H. Weiss et al., Fermi surface investigations of the alkaline-earth-metal subnitride NaBa3Nby means of de Haas-van Alphen oscillations - art. no. 115104, PHYS REV B, 6311(11), 2001, pp. 5104
de Haas-van Alphen oscillations are observed in the all;aline-earth-metal s
ubnitride NaBa3N. They are studied at various sample orientations with resp
ect to the magnetic-field direction. A rich spectrum of quantum oscillation
frequencies varying with the held orientation is found. The effective cycl
otron masses of the carriers are found to depend on the area enclosed by th
e corresponding Fermi surface orbit, while the mean free path is: constant
over the whole Fermi surface. Four of the detected frequencies are attribut
ed to two lens-shaped features of the Fermi surface, as computed with the t
ight-binding linear muffin-tin orbital method. Spin-orbit coupling is shown
to play a crucial role in determining the topology of the respective orbit
s in reciprocal space. The experimental results and the computed electronic
structure are discussed with regard to the void metal model for the subnit
ride.
