Quasifree (e, e'p) reactions at Q(2) similar to 0.1 GeV2 observed a strong
quenching of the single-particle valence strength. This precluded unambiguo
us measurement of nuclear transparency in quasifree (e, e'p) reactions at Q
(2) greater than or equal to 1 GeV2. We argue that the high-energy nuclear
transparency in the transverse kinematics weakly depends on the probability
of the short-range correlations and can be accurately determined using inf
ormation on the cross section of the (e, e') reaction at x similar to 1 and
Q(2) similar to 1-2 GeV2. We find that the Glauber approximation well desc
ribes E91-013 and NE18 (e, e'p) data at 2 less than or equal to Q(2) less t
han or equal to 4 GeV2 without any significant quenching. This gives furthe
r support to our observation that the quenching of nuclear levels strongly
depends on the resolution (Q(2)) and practically disappears at Q(2) greater
than or equal to 1 GeV2. (C) 2001 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
