Developments in process (on-line) gas chromatography are discussed with a f
ocus on the chromatographic performance. Such improved performance, coupled
with on-going micro-electronic and computer improvements, is shown to resu
lt in very economically efficient, sensitive and fast chromatography. A few
examples are given where this improved performance is demonstrated. The im
pact of new computer networking technology is highlighted, and a few areas,
which continue to be problematic for process chromatographic technology, a
re discussed.
