Abstract
In the final defeat of "cacique" in 1788, it played a decisive role the fir m consolidation of the alliance between the pehuenches and the colonial adm inistration. This latter was worried with the maintenance of the regional c ommerce circuits, the supply of salt-a critical issue the supply of which w as ensured by the said allies-and the security of Cuyo and the space betwee n the capital city of the Viceroyalty and Chile, which was under permanent attack by the irreducible "lonko" of the Ranqueles.
