New image modeling approaches

Earth observation relies heavily on imaging. Extraction of information in t urn relies on image processing and analysis. A new and powerful methodology has come to the fore in recent years, based on the wavelet and other multi scale transforms. Of the many possible application areas we describe in thi s paper some approaches for object and feature finding in images', noise fi ltering of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images, and the automatic geometr ical registration of different images.
