Abstract
This study estimates the association of intimate partner violence (IPV)and alcohol-dependence symptoms, social consequences from drinking, and drug us e among white, black, and Hispanic couples. A probability, sample of 555 wh ite, 358 black, and 527 Hispanic couples in the U.S. household population w as interviewed in 1995. The response rate was 85% Bivariate analysis indica tes that most problem status variables are associated with increased rates of male-to-female (MFPV) and female-to-male (FMPV) partner violence. Logist ic regression analyses showed that predictors of MFPV and FMPV vary by ethn icity.
