A. Barducci et I. Pippi, Analysis and rejection of systematic disturbances in hyperspectral remotely sensed images of the Earth, APPL OPTICS, 40(9), 2001, pp. 1464-1477
We discuss the appearance of systematic spatial and spectral patterns of no
ise in remotely sensed images as well as the possibility of mitigating the
effects of these patterns on the data. We describe the structure of two sim
ple theoretical models that predict the appearance of patterns of noise (ma
inly stripe noise). Moreover, two new algorithms that have been specificall
y developed to mitigate the noise patterns are described. The performance o
f the two algorithms is assessed by use of some hyperspectral images acquir
ed by different kinds of airborne sensor. The algorithms show an unexpected
ability to reject these noise patterns. (C) 2001 Optical Society of Americ
