The increasing demand for radiolabeled metaiodobenzylguanidine (mIBG) promp
ted the need to obtain the radiopharmaceutical by a reliable, routine and s
imple synthetic method for batch production. The production of mIBG labeled
with either I-123 or I-124 has been optimized by modifying literature meth
ods that involve solid-state exchange reaction on "cold" mIBG facilitated b
y ammonium sulfate. The radiochemical yield and purity of radioiodinated mI
BG generally exceeded 80 and 98%, respectively, with specific activity of >
50 mCi/mg. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
