Abstract
Absorption spectra of Be I and Be II have been observed in the visible spectral range with a new experimental technique. A laser-produced Be plasma acts as the absorbing medium while a dye laser is used for bac klighting the Be plasma. Transitions between excited levels have been observed in absorption, and relative oscillator strength ratios of the Be II lines from levels n = 3 to n = 4 have been measured.
