Abstract
A catatonic chromopphore {1-(N-methylpyridinio-4-yl)-2-(N-methylpyrrol-2-yl )ethenel (Me-Mepepy) photoisomeerisable by visible light has been intercala ted into transparent thin films of the layered MPS3 comppunds (M = Mn. Cd). The photochemistry of Me-mMepepy has been studied in solution and in the i ntercalated state. In both cases, irradiation also modifies the interaction s between the chromophores. Finally, irradiation of the MnPS3-Mepepy interc alate causes a modification of the valus of the spontaneous magnetisation o f the material.
