Abstract
This research develops a decision support methodology called project surfac e regions (PSR) via the use of discrete-event simulation and response surfa ce methodology (RSM). It is used to assist production managers in determini ng the appropriate number of multitasking workers and the corresponding dyn amic dispatching rule-pair when a JIT system's behavior changes. A set of d ynamic dispatching rule-pairs, including a new invented rule-pair, is consi dered to demonstrate the application of PSR. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
