A class of discrete time stochastic Petri nets, called Manufacturing N
etworks, is studied in this paper. They are particularly suited for mo
deling synchronization and serialization. Applications include modelin
g for layered architecture software synchronization and serialization,
multihop radio network path modeling and manufacturing system modelin
g. Since manufacturing networks are, in general, analytically intracta
ble, a variety of special cases are examined. An iterative algorithm,
based on one developed previously for space division packet switches,
is applied to the particular case of multihop radio network modeling.
