Abstract
In this paper we describe three novel high resolution diagnostic syste ms on the Culham tokamaks. The first is a pair of high dispersion, sho rt sampling time visible light spectrometers, employing a fast charge- coupled device (CCD) and a multianode photomultiplier as detectors, al lowing unusually high bandwidth ion drift velocity measurements. Secon dly, the application of an X-ray CCD to a Johann spectrometer for ion and electron core parameter characterisation is outlined. Lastly, a ve ry high throughput, 30-channel Thomson scattering spectrometer system is described, which exploits the low f number lens design techniques, coated fibres and third-generation image intensifiers now available.
