Abstract
Reaction of 2.2' -(ethylenedioxy)bisbenzaldehyde with 2,2' (ethylenetlioxy) - bisbenzyl amine in ethanol in the presence of hydrated RE(NO3)(3) or RE(C lO4)(3) (RE = rare earth ion) gives complexes of the type RE(OH)(NO3)(2)L(. )2CH(3)CH(2)OH (RE = La, Pr-Eu).RE(NO3)(3)(LCH3CH2OH)-C-. (RE = Ce, Gd). [L a(ClO4)(3)](3)L(2)(.)3CH(3)CH(2)OH (.) H2O or [RE(ClO4)(3)](2)L(.)2CH(3)CH( 2)OH (RE = Ce-Nd), where L is the corresponding Schiff base macrocyclic lig and. All the complexes have been characterized by elemental analyses. IR sp ectra, TG-DTA and molar conductance measurements. The light rare earth ions have been found to be affective as templates for the synthesis of the 22-m embered Schiff base macrocycle.
