We examined the effects of progesterone on the elevation of tail skin tempe
rature (TST) in ovariectomized rats and compared them with those of estradi
ol. Progesterone showed only insignificant effects on the TST elevation, wh
ereas estradiol showed complete inhibition. The TST elevation induced by ov
ariectomy is caused by estradiol deficiency, but progesterone plays little
or no role.
