The placement of grafting material in extraction sites for ridge preservati
on is an increasingly common practice among clinicians. This is a case repo
rt of a patient presenting with a symptomatic, foreign body granuloma follo
wing the placement of hard tissue replacement (HTR) in extraction sockets.
The surgical specimen revealed numerous histiocytes and foreign body type g
iant cells. The grafting material was surgically removed and the patient's
symptoms were alleviated. Although biocompatibility of HTR has previously b
een shown, specific applications may be contraindicated or some patients ma
y exhibit sensitivity to this material.
