Abstract
Two blue fluorescent 1,8-naphthalimide derivatives (fluorescent brighteners ) having an allyloxy group have been investigated as modificators for polys tyrene. It has been found that the monomeric fluorescent brighteners take p art in the radical polymerization and are covalently bound to the polymer c hain yielding fluorescent side-groups in the polystyrene. The basic photoph ysical characteristics and photostability of monomeric and polymeric fluore scent compounds are discussed. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights re served.
