Abstract
Vibration control of the composite beam integrated with curved piezoelectri c fibers is investigated. Sensory and actuating equations of the curved pie zoelectric fibers embedded in a composite slender beam are derived, and exp ressed in terms of line integrals. In addition, a new method for designing fiber modal sensors and modal actuators is presented by means of modulating the shapes of the curved piezoelectric fibers. The curvature shape of each modal sensor/actuator fiber can be determined by solving a differential eq uation. For a slender beam, an approximate solution is given. Based on the modal sensor fibers and modal actuator fibers, the modal control of the com posite beam is performed independently. Finally, an illustrated example is given in which the effects of the curvatures of the fibers on the sensing s ignals are discussed. (C) 2001 Academic Press.
