Abstract
As channel speeds increase and channel spacing narrows, the importance and difficulty of overcoming chromatic dispersion becomes a critical factor in the operation of advanced optical networks. Alternatives for controlling di spersion include fiber Bragg gratings, virtual-image phased arrays, dispers ion-compensating fiber, and high-order mode technology.
