The generation of reflected and transmitted waves in induced superradiance
is investigated. It is demonstrated that the exponential increase in the am
plitude of the total field at the linear stage of the process may be accomp
anied by a periodic cooperative exchange between the forward and backward w
aves in a sample. Transition to the nonlinear stage in a certain phase of t
his exchange determines the predominance of the transmitted or reflected wa
ve in the pulse. The influence of the area of the initiating pulse and the
sample length is considered.
