M. Vandecandelaere et al., PREGNANCY-ASSOCIATED OSTEOPOROSIS IS A RA RE CLINICAL ENTITY - 2 NEW CASES, La Revue de medecine interne, 18(7), 1997, pp. 571-574
Two women, 31 and 19 years old, developed acute back pain with non-tra
umatic vertebral fractures one month after delivery in one case, and d
uring the 9th month of gestation in the second case. For the first pat
ient, the evolution was favorable with an increase of bone mineral den
sity (15.2% over fourteen months under calcium and vitamin D). Ten yea
rs later, the osteoporosis of the second patient worsened without any
new pregnancy. Our observations suggest the possibility of different p
athogenies in pregnancy-associated osteoporosis.
