Abstract
Flow vacuum pyrolysis of the title hydrocarbon (posessing exo-benzocyclobut ane and exo-cyclopropane moieties) at 1 Torr and 600 degreesC afforded 3,3a , 10,10a-tetrahydrobenzo[e]azulene (14) as a major product and 1,3a,10,10a- tetrahydrobenzo[e]azulene (15) as minor product. A radical mechanism is sug gested for this pyrolysis.
