Though none of the German newspapers in exile was actually published in Aus
tria, parts of the readers lived there. When the Dollfuss-government issued
the decree to abolish the freedom of the press (censorship, seizure, ban)
in 1933 it affected the German press in Exile as well as the native and oth
er foreign newspapers. The critical reporting about the events of February
1934 led to a ban of almost all German newspapers in Exile.
