The 1.7 kb human insulin-like growth factor binding protein (IGFBP)-6 gene
5'-flanking region was sequenced and found to have promoter activity in hum
an osteoblasts. The sequence contains four clustered transcription start si
tes and three retinoic acid response elements (RAREs) with widely spaced ha
lf-sites. Only the proximal DR15 RARE was functional. Retinoids increased I
GFBP-6 promoter activity up to 3-fold. (C) 2001 Published by Elsevier Scien
