Abstract
A method to determine the proportion of both enantiomers of 2,6-di-O-alkylg alactose in a permethylated/perethylated polysaccharide is described. It in volves conversion of the monosaccharides, obtained by hydrolysis of the sam ple, to the corresponding diastereomeric acetylated 1-deoxy-1-(1-phenylethy lamino)alditols, followed by gas chromatographic analysis. This procedure h as been applied to a polysaccharide isolated from Pteracladiella capillacea .
