Abstract
Literature on thr contributions of social cognitive and emotion processes t o children's social competence is reviewed and interpreted in the context o f an integrated model of emotion processes and cognition in social informat ion processing. Neurophysiological and functional evidence for the centrali ty of emotion processes in personal-social decision making is reviewed. Cri ck and Dodge's model is presented as a cognitive model of social decision m aking, and a revised model is proposed into which emotion processes are int egrated. Hypotheses derived from the proposed model are described.
