Abstract
The title compound (4R, 5R) (5-hydroxymethyl-2, 2-dimethyl-[ 1, 3]dioxolan4 -yl)-bis-( 4-methoxy-phenyl)-methanol (C-21 H-26 O-6, M-r = 374. 42), was s ynthesized and crystallized in the monoclinic system, space group P2 with a = 9.347(1), b = 10.11(1), c 11.465(2) Angstrom, beta = 114.057(2), V = 989 . 5(2) Angstrom (3), Z = 2, D-c = 1.257mg/mm(3), F(000) = 400, mu (MoK alph a) = 0.092mm(-1), final R = 0.0415, wR = 0.1077 and 2369 observed reflectio ns [1>2 sigma (I)]. The results show that the configuration of both C(2) an d C(3) are in R form, and the two OH groups are on one side of the dioxolan e ring. The title compound consists of a dioxolane ring and two aromatic ri ngs. Two intramolecular hydrogen bonds O(1) - H(1). . .O(3) and O(4) - H(4) . . .O(2) are observed. In the crystal, the network is formed along the axi s h by the intermolecular hydrogen bond O(1) - H(1). . .O(5).
