The co-morbidity of axis I disorders and axis II personality disorders is r
eviewed. As expected, co-morbid diagnoses in most studies yielded poorer ou
tcomes. The early recognition of both axis I and axis II disorders, particu
larly in late childhood and adolescence, may prevent the later development
of adult axis I and axis II psychopathology. The clinical relevance of the
categorical versus dimensional classification of personality disorders is d
iscussed, Curr Opin Psychiatry 14:137-142, (C) 2001 Lippincott Williams & W
ilkins.
