A spectrophotometric method for the determination of Cd-II in low conc
entration upto 0.05 mu g ml(-1) after selective extraction of Cd-II. p
henanthroline complex on polyurethane foam sorbents using dithizone as
counter-ion has been developed. interferences of metal ions such as M
n-II, Ni-II, Co-II, Fe-II upto 100 mu g, Zn-II upto 8000 mu g and Pb-I
I upto 1000 mu g have automatically been clinlinated in the presence o
f 1,10-phenanthroline. Cu-II (50 mu g) interferes in the determination
of Cd (20 mu g) which has been eliminated by masking with EDTA. F- io
n does not interfere in the method. The method Iras been applied to va
rious Zn-bearing materials.
