Abstract
We develop a local moment approach to static properties of the symmetric An derson model in the presence of a magnetic field, focussing in particular o n the strong-coupling Kondo regime. The approach is innately simple and phy sically transparent; but is found to give good agreement, for essentially a ll field strengths, with exact results for the Wilson ratio, impurity magne tization, spin susceptibility and related properties.
