Abstract
Information on traceability was gathered for three domestic Danish fish cha ins typical of the current trading practices in fresh seafood and for three chains exporting products from Australia to Japan. The same standard quest ionnaires, coupled with personal interviews, were used in all six chains. T raceability is a most important issue in the high value product chains in A ustralia. No information technology methods, were in evidence. In the Danis h chains, nearly all traceability was lost after the collector/auction stag e and the only evaluation of quality parameters was by inspection.
