Abstract
A critical assessment of the feasibility of IFE chambers has been initiated . This work seeks to define design windows and explore in detail the tradeo ffs for various chamber concepts. The work is performed in an integrated an d self-consistent manner by including all key elements of IFE chambers, inc luding target physics, target fabrication, injection and tracking, final op tics interface and protection, chamber engineering, safety and environment. Chamber concepts are being considered in a sequential fashion; initial stu dies reported here have concentrated on dry wall options. The goals and app roach of the program are described and preliminary results reported.
