During the past decades psychosomatic gynecology could increasingly be esta
blished due to the fact that psychological aspects are attributed to the wo
men by the professionals and also actively demanded by the women themselves
. If one considers the special diseases in psychosomatic gynecology the imp
ortance of this medical field becomes evident and the demand for communicat
ive skills in the doctor-patient relationship becomes inevitable.
In the light of this development, training curricula have been installed in
six German centers since the early 1990s, offering training in theory, Bal
int groups and verbal intervention. The great challenge for the future will
be to grant greater acceptance and financial benefits to research activiti
es embedded in clinical gynecology.
