The General Dental Council continued the custom of holding the annual
Wilfred Fish Lecture, a tribute to the first President, when they invi
ted Lord Woolf of Barnes to speak on March 26 1996 at the BDA. Lord Wo
olf was created a life peer in 1992, in recognition of a distinguished
legal career, and appointed a Lord of Appeal in Ordinary. More recent
ly Lord Woolf has conducted the Review 'Access to Justice', which aims
to tackle the three problems facing civil justice today: cost, delay
and complexity.
