Abstract
An effective procedure to select packaging conditions for storage of hortic ultural commodities was developed on the basis of genetic algorithms. Mass of commodities in a package and thickness of packaging film as packaging co nditions produced at random was progressively optimized by the procedure as an evolutionary process found in the biological world. Shredded cabbage wa s enclosed in a package of a polymeric film according to the optimized pack aging conditions. Oxygen and CO2 concentrations in the package were control led at effective levels for the storage of shredded cabbage. (C) 2001 Silso e Research Institute.
