Ja. Johnson et Jk. Schkade, Effects of an occupation-based intervention on mobility problems followinga cerebral vascular accident, J APPL GER, 20(1), 2001, pp. 91-110
The usefulness of a new occupational therapy approach to intervention was e
xplored with three individuals who had sustained a cerebral vascular accide
nt (CVA). This new approach, the Occupational Adaptation Frame of Reference
(OA), was used to guide the occupational therapist in the treatment of mob
ility problems associated with the CVA. Participants were assessed and trea
ted by an occupational therapist in their home environment. Three case stud
ies were compiled from qualitative and quantitative data. Data were gathere
d through observation, videotaping, narrative stories, and the Movement Rat
ing Scale. Results revealed that intervention based on OA was associated wi
th improved mobility skills.
