An algorithm for the time-domain electrodynamic analysis of planar structur
es with an arbitrary distribution of permittivity epsilon is suggested; in
the domain considered, epsilon may take the following values: epsilon > eps
ilon (0), epsilon < <epsilon>(0), epsilon = 0, and epsilon < 0. A two-param
eter algorithm and an expression for the R<tau> elements of the equivalent
circuit of a space domain are presented. Expressions are obtained that allo
w one to construct a thin (consisting of a single grid layer) absorbing lay
er for plane waves and the H-m0 eigenmodes of a rectangular waveguide. The
accuracy of the method is estimated. An example is given that demonstrates
the application of the method to the analysis of radio-pulse scattering by
an inhomogeneous dielectric cylinder.
