We have installed a high-resolution electron spectroscopy apparatus on the
soft X-ray beamline BL27SU at SPring-8 and started the sub-natural-width an
gle-resolved resonant Auger spectroscopy of atoms and molecules. We demonst
rate that the sub-natural-width spectroscopy is a powerful tool both for sp
ectroscopic investigation of the Auger final states and for investigation o
f the nuclear motion dynamics in the core-excited molecules, presenting som
e results for the Ne 1s --> 3p excitation and for the C and O 1s excitation
s of CO2 to the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital 2 pi (u). (C) 2001 Else
