XANES spectra of sesqui-oxides of Al, Cr and Fe

Oxygen X-ray absorption near edge (XANES) spectra obtained from alpha -Al2O 3, Cr2O3 and alpha -Fe2O3 were found to be clearly distinguishable. The ene rgy distributions of the XANES spectra were reproduced here fairly well by the DV-X alpha molecular orbital calculation On the other hand, O K alpha s pectra emitted from these oxides showed no significant difference. This ind icates that the XANES is a very promising candidate to study the chemical e nvironment of anions in typical ionic compounds. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
