Abstract
The reaction of difluorodiiodomethane with alkynes (4a-e) in the prese nce of hydrogen peroxide afforded the corresponding beta-iodo-alpha, b eta-unsaturated carboxylic acids. When propargylic alcohol was used as the substrate, beta-iodo-alpha,beta-unsaturated gamma-butyrolactone ( 5F) was produced. The mechanism of the reaction was suggested.
