The magnetic properties and the low temperature crystal and electronic
structures of theta-(BETS)(4)Cu2Cl6 (BETS = bis(ethylenedithio)tetras
elenafulvalene) are reported. It remains metallic down to 4.2 K. Susce
ptibility measurement revealed a broad maximum around 200 K, indicatin
g that two Cu2+ ions in the [Cu2Cl6](2-) are antiferromagnetically cou
pled. The susceptibility can be explained by the ''singlet-triplet mod
el'' with J = 163 K. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science.
