Abstract
A type of optical filter, the phase grating filter (PGF), which uses cascad ed rectangular phase gratings or a single echelon grating as a wavelength s elector, is proposed and analysed. The PGF has similar properties to conven tional the Lyot birefringent filter but higher light transmittance thanks t o elimination of the use of any polarizer.
