Abstract
The deprotonation of hydrochloride salts of ethyl and methyl esters of amin o acids and peptides is accomplished using activated zinc dust. The reactio n is neat and quantitative. Thus, the free amino acid esters and peptide es ters have been isolated in good yield and purity.
