Abstract
PLS (Partial Least Squares) is a multivariate statistical linear regression method to extract the relationship between a matrix of dependent (output) variables and a matrix of independent (input) variables. In this communicat ion the application of the partial least-squares algorithm in the analysis of infrared spectra of different organic acids was discussed. A method is a lso presented for the selection of the optimum number of factors for the pr esent method. All calculations were done by using a PLS Pascal and a Matlab program devel oped by the authors. A flow diagram of the matrix-manipulation programs use d is presented.
