Abstract
Steroid hormones play a key role in disturbances in the Ethiopathogenesis o f bitch pyometra. The histopathological changes observed in ovaries and ute rus obtained after ovariohysterectomy revealed structural changes which ref lected pathological hormonal stimulation. E. coli, Klebsiella, Pseudomonas, Streptococcus and Staphylococcus spp are involved in pyogenic process. Cli nical diagnosis must exclude inflammatory and neoplastic diseases of the va gina, diseases of the kidney and the urinary bladder. The diagnosis is base d on clinical and USG examinations, blood chemistry and morphology, and pos sibly. Bacteriological examination of the reproductory organs. The ovariohy sterectomy is the most effective method in curing pyometra in bitch and inv olves the use of: prostaglandins F2 alfa, antyprogestagens RU 46534, Metrov etsan and ReVet 17.
