Stripping potentiometry (SP) has been used effectively for the determinatio
n of trace levels of several metal species in solution. Indium ion, which c
an be readily reduced and has a high solubility in mercury, can be determin
ed directly using SP. The reduction potential of indium is located between
those of lead and cadmium, necessitating optimization of several experiment
al parameters for successful quantitative analysis. A method for the SP of
In(III) is presented which utilizes constant current stripping analysis (CC
SA) at a mercury-film glassy carbon electrode in KCI solutions in the prese
nce of Pb(II) and Cd(II). (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserve
